Online self-evaluation: the EFL writing skills in focus

Abstract Students need more independent roles to evaluate their learning performance, especially in the absence of teachers’ feedback due some constraints such as technology and poor experience. This study investigates potential online self-evaluation on students’ writing skills English a foreign language (EFL). It examines preparatory year (PY) level one most improved EFL areas perceptions when they use writing. In this quasi-experiment, two groups PY program students (N = 60) participated for first semester 2020–2021. A mixed-method design was applied: Self-monitoring checklists, questionnaires, achievement tests, portfolios. Findings revealed that learners’ mistakes were punctuation marks, capitalization, informal language, subject-verb agreement. also perceived learners doing fine about where how should be. The proved performance correlated significantly; however, effect size low. Based research findings, it is recommended training programs strategy are be boosted, institutions receive less feedback.
